[Private to the Marquis, text]
You're native to these parts, right? How do you pronounce 'Laaksonen?'
[Stildyne may not know the difference between France and Finland but he does know quality.. ah... art when he sees it. He's been in the good bookstores.]
[Private to Gaheris Rhade]
(Last day of port, before Cobra-plot, follows this conversation.)
[Stildyne is sitting in a cafe reading an English-language newspaper he scrounged up somewhere. He's reading the continuation of the headline story-- visible as -AHMEN SENET SET TRACKED TO PARIS ]
"The ivory set is believed to be the personal game set of the young king himself. A priceless artifact of the 18th dynasty, it dates to 1333 BC. The black-market trade in Egyptian antiquities..." Etcetera etcetera, stolen, fenced, you'll never guess what young Etienne told me about Bernard Cowl.
[He looks up at the camera and puts down the paper, picking up a red cardboard packet.]
Lesser men might have bought a five euro pack of cards.
[He shakes them accusingly. Yes, he nurtures a quiet love for effect that led him to actually buy a pack of cards to make his point. He's rather proud of it, actually.]

Date: 2011-10-23 04:59 am (UTC)Frankly this looks like Chigan art.
[A quick picture of this moderately NSFW page is attached]

Date: 2011-10-23 05:13 am (UTC)Though if you should like for me to take your subtle hints, I've an Inmate trying to sleep through the wall, and you're welcome to come and help me make that difficult for him.

That sounds like a fascinating artifact. In my universe, the Perseids acted as deities to the Egyptians.
I wonder what they would think of that... In any case, Mr. Cowl was unpleasant company and I didn't keep it long.

Date: 2011-10-23 05:48 am (UTC)Why-? Apart from it being possibly your head to own it, it's a child's game. You need--
[You need two to play a game.
Wait. Nevermind.]
You're a strange one, Mister Rhade.

Date: 2011-10-23 08:09 am (UTC)[This is his 'you give me a migraine' face, with a cloud of 'even with this much credit I can't afford to buy this kind of trouble' hovering over it like clouds on a mountain crag.]
Enjoy your port.
[It's possible that that vast facial metaphor is softened-- fractionally and just around the edges-- with a certain understanding of the whys and wherefores of this jaunt. Might be the faintest stirring breeze of sympathy. But let's not overextend ourselves.
P.S. Rhade: he now has a pretty fair value to assign to the position of 'usual gaming partner' and he's going to keep it in mind.]
